Creating Parent Canvas Account Access

A Canvas Parent Observer role provides view-only access to their student’s activity in Canvas. Observers will be able to monitor assignment due dates, announcements, and other course content. ProgressBook will remain the gradebook of record. This means you will still access your student’s official grades through your Abre account.

How to Get a Pairing Code as a Student

• Log in to OHP's Canvas System.

• Click Account on the top-left global navigation menu.

• Select Settings.

• Click the Pair with Observer button on the right side.

• Copy the 6-digit alphanumeric code that pops up.

• Send this code to your parent or guardian.

Note that pairing codes are case-sensitive and expire after 7 days or after their first single use. You need a separate code for each parent or observer.

How to Use the Code as a Parent

• Navigate to OHP's Canvas login page in a web browser or open the Canvas Parent mobile app.

• Click Parent Login then either login to your account or create a new account.

• Enter your name, email address, and a secure password.

• Paste or type the 6-digit student pairing code.

• Click Start Participating to finish linking your account to your child's.
